The zine creates a picture of my relationship with photography as I attempt to address my complex feelings toward this image of an unknown, unidentified woman holding a cat and the outdated (and sometimes outlandish) description of photographic materials and practices found in “Photography In Focus: A Basic Text.” Photography In Focus is a darkroom, analogue photography manual from 1975. Once read through and unfolded, the zine reveals a literal portrait of me; visible through the cut, folds and shadow of the other side, this portrait hints towards an unspoken vulnerability, denial that the viewer may know more about me from reading the zine, and refusal to declare it as capturing the whole picture. A nod towards the ambiguity of the unknown woman and her cat, the content and form, and my forever-evolving relationship with photography. As the zine is simple and ambiguous but, at the same time, complex and obvious, I, at the end of the day, am just a girl with her cat and her camera.
